About Scott Lane Boat Builders
Scott Lane grew up in a boating family. Holidays at the family bach on Waiheke encouraged his love for the water and all things boating.
Waterskiing became an enjoyable weekend sport which led to him building his first ski boat, a Pelin Bullet at the age of sixteen. Over time another two ski boats followed. The later is a Craig Loomes designed 1950 Ballistic. Lane made the moulds that Scott Lane Boat Builders still owns.
Scott Lane finished his apprenticeship with Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders in 1996 prior to going on his O.E. He returned in 1999 to create Scott Lane Boat Builders.
From his solo beginning Scott Lane’s company has grown. Over the last twenty-five years the team of boat builders and apprentices have produced a range of high quality custom boats. The boats speak for themselves in terms of finishing detail and workmanship.
The very first job was the fit out of a Sea Quest 55 imported as a hull and deck from the U.K. This led to the commissioning of Zinfandel a 12 metre Elite. Since then another ten Elites have followed. The company has also built a replica of a 1960s ocean race boat and has completed many refits on a range of boats the latest being a major rebuild on a Salthouse 55.
In recent years, Scott Lane Boat Builders’ have been building high performance Power Cat’s for Valder Yachts. The first, The Keys was launched in August 2021. The second Valder Yacht, Bentayga was launched in October 2024 and parts of the third Valder Yacht, a flybridge model are under construction.
Scott Lane Boat Builders’ refit services include hard tops, modifications, boarding systems, and chine infills.
Today passion for boats and boating still runs strong in Lane’s life. When Scott is not creating his latest project in his workshop he enjoys nothing more than spending time on the water with his wife and three children.
